Updated Isuzu D-Max pick-up lands with payload and interior tweaks
Isuzu updates its D-Max pick-up with new tech, interior tweaks and marginally increased payload. Prices to start from £16,799 plus VAT
Japanese manufacturer Izusu has updated its D-Max pick-up truck range with new tech, interior updates and a marginal increase in payload – the latter only applicable to double cab variants. The slight increase in practicality is thanks to a small drop in kerb weight, meaning double cab Izusu D-Maxes now offer an extra 10kg payload, while still using the same 1.9-litre diesel engine found in the old model.
The interior updates are mainly cosmetic with new gloss black trim added around the glove box, window switches and air vents. While the binnacle and soft pads used for arm rests have been updated, too. Trailer Sway Control – which automatically applies the brakes and adjusts engine torque when traier swing is detected – is now standard arcross all 4x4 models.
Only double cab variants of the D-Max have undergone a major mechanical update. The Rear suspension has been changed from a five leaf design to a three leaf, which Izusu claims improves ride comfort and reduces noise levels while driving. Despite the changes, towing ability has remained the same at 3.5 tonnes.
Powering the Izusu pick-up is the same 1.9-litre diesel producing 163bhp and 360Nm of torque as featured in the older model. Unlike many diesels on the market the D-Max's unit does not require any AdBlue to meet Euro 6 emissions standards and is claimed to achieve 40mpg on a combined cycle.
The D-Max now features three new exterior paint options – Spinel Red, Sapphire Blue and Galena Grey while the top spec Blade model will be available with four exterior colours including Spinel Red and Obsidian Grey.
The official launch of the D-Max is set for 1 October 2018, with prices starting at £16,799 plus VAT for the two-wheel drive single cab, while the range-topping Blade model with automatic gearbox will be priced at £29,799 plus VAT.
