Rugged 2023 Ford Ranger Tremor and Wildtrak X revealed
The new Ford Ranger Tremor and Wildtrak X up the off-road kit and are available to order now
The new Ford Ranger has barely arrived in showrooms, but Ford has already revealed two more variants to make the model line-up the broadest of any pick-up truck for sale in the UK. The new Ford Ranger Tremor and Ranger Wildtrak X are more off-road focused machines that are both fitted with new Bilstein dampers, while reworked suspension and chassis components – as well as more rugged looks - help to boost their appeal.
The two new models are aimed at buyers that need a pick-up that offers enhanced off-road ability in challenging conditions, and Ford Pro general manager Hans Schep confirmed that they take some of their off-road DNA from the Ranger Raptor. "The new Wildtrak X and Tremor series follow the same recipe as our iconic Raptor; each one adds even more off-road ability and stunning looks to Europe’s most popular pick-up. Together, they broaden the latest Ranger family to new levels, strengthening its appeal to more customers than ever."
What is the Ford Ranger Tremor?
The Ranger Tremor slots into the pick-up truck line-up between the XLT and Wildtrak models. It's similar in concept to the previous-generation Ranger Wolftrak in that it takes XLT as its base and adds new kit geared towards improved off-road ability.
Power comes from the most potent of Ford's EcoBlue diesels, a four-cylinder twin-turbo unit making 202bhp and 500Nm of torque which is connected to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. As well as Bilstein dampers, the Tremor also receives a ride height that's been raised by 26mm, while a 30mm wider track boosts its off-road ability. There's a beefier power steering system, too, while a steel bash plate protects the underside of the Ranger's running gear.
New electronics include Trail Turn Assist, a torque-vectoring system that applies the brakes to help tighten the truck's turning radius by up to 25 per cent. Also fitted is Trail Control, a low-speed cruise control system first seen on the Ranger Raptor. This allows the driver to select a speed below 20mph and the Ranger will maintain that speed over terrain while the driver concentrates on steering.
Visual upgrades over the Ranger XLT include black wheelarch mouldings to cover the Tremor's wider track, black aluminium side steps, a black roll bar in the cargo bed, exposed tow hooks up front and grey exterior detailing. Inside, there are water-resistant vinyl floor mats, while the bank of six pre-wired overhead switches can be connected to accessories such as winches and LED light bars.
What is the Ford Ranger Wildtrak X?
The Wildtrak X is an off-road upgrade for the popular Wildtrak trim that slots between Wildtrak and the recently revealed Ranger Platinum. It's very much a stepping stone between the standard Ranger and the Raptor, and features the same off-road enhancements and electronics as the Tremor edition, so it's taller, wider and more off-road focused than the standard Ranger Wildtrak.
Visually, the Wildtrak X benefits from a grille surround, H-bar in the front bumper, wheelarch trims and rear bumper all in Ashphalt Black, blacked-out Ford badges and black 17-inch alloy wheels featuring all-terrain tyres with white lettering. Add the optional matrix LED headlights, and the Wildtrak X also includes auxiliary lights in the grille.
Inside, suede-trimmed seats are standard, while Cyber Orange stitching features, and FordPass connectivity includes Ford Pro and Ford Liive business services.
