New Jeep Wagoneer S electric SUV to target BMW iX and Audi e-tron
Jeep claims the all-electric Wagoneer S will come with 400 miles of range
Jeep’s electrified future will take some big steps in the next few years as the firm plans to roll out four all-new, pure-electric models - one of which will be the new Wagoneer S. It’ll be positioned as a premium EV SUV and a flagship model for Jeep’s electric lineup.
In the premium EV SUV market, the Wagoneer S will have plenty of rivals to go up against, including the BMW iX, Audi e-tron, Mercedes EQS SUV and even from within the Stellantis stable with the upcoming Maserati Folgore Grecale.
On the outside, it looks like the Wagoneer S will share little with the current Jeep Wagoneer. At the front, there’s - of course - the seven-slat grille (which can be lit-up) accompanied by a full-width light-bar and ‘Wagoneer’ badging above it.
The squared-off wheel arches are also a typical Jeep design trait, but towards the rear, the huge spoiler is designed to channel air down for extra aerodynamic efficiency. There’s also another full-width light-bar back there, too.
We don’t know what the cabin will be like in the Wagoneer S, but it could take some inspiration from the newly-launched Wagoneer. With potential for eight seats, that could mean it utilising up to seven screens inside with a three-screen set-up up front.
Underpinning the Wagoneer S will be the new STLA Large architecture from Stellantis. The bespoke EV platform can allow for battery sizes over 100kWh. Jeep claims the Wagoneer S will offer around 400 miles of range and with the aid of four-wheel drive and 592bhp a 0-60mph time of around 3.5 seconds. No details on charging capacity have been revealed yet.
Jeep has said the public reveal will take place in 2023 and the Wagoneer S will start production in North America in 2024 with European sales commencing the same year.
