Caterham Seven 620R immortalised in new LEGO set

If you can't quite afford a real Caterham Seven 620R, there's now a LEGO kit car of a kit car...

Is a Caterham 620R just a little out of reach for you? Good news – LEGO has you covered. The toy brand has released official pictures of the new LEGO Caterham 620R kit that will hit stores on October 1st, priced at £69.

The kit consists of over 770 pieces and comes in Firecracker Yellow. Under the removable bonnet is a scaled-down model of the 620R’s 2.0-litre supercharged Ford engine and the interior is just as Spartan as the real thing – a steering wheel, gearlever and speedo is all you get.

The kit car of a kit car stands 10cm high and 28cm long – 2cm taller and 1cm longer than the LEGO Ferrari F40 kit (seen on our sister site evo, here) that’s been around for since the end of 2015.

David Ridley, Caterham Chief Commercial Officer, said: "Our army of fans who build their own Caterham Sevens are equally discerning when it comes to the detail and craftsmanship which is central to Caterham, and we worked closely with the LEGO team to ensure the LEGO model replicated that.

Caterham reveals exclusive Seven Sprint

"It’s really satisfying to know that fans can recreate and build their own 620R with LEGO bricks."

The original model idea came from Carl Greatrix – aka bricktrix Carl on the LEGO Ideas page - almost two years ago. LEGO Ideas is a community set up by the toy brand for fans to suggest and develop ideas for future kits.

Carl’s idea was deeply thought through, as he created models representing everything from the basic Caterham chassis to the bonkers R500 and the 620R that eventually got the official stamp of approval on March 11th, 2016.

This is one of just a few iconic cars in recent times getting the LEGO treatment; you can get a classic Mini Cooper in British Racing Green, a VW Camper and Beetle and a massive Porsche 911 GT3 RS Technic kit.
